The last official ride we attended was at Swartkops. Two 6-8 lap heats plus the early morning practise. Cost was R60.00 with two entry tickets included.
Nice H.M.G. turnout, no accidents and fabulous weather. Plus the crowds were big as well.
There’s some riders really trying now and I hear some engines are being tweaked to get a bit more power out of them. The name Carrillo, Quaife and front discs was heard on more than one occasion.

Grid placements.
We need as a matter of urgency to get the faster riders up front and the slower riders towards the back.
If you haven’t been given a grid position already, then see John Thornton or John Boswell as to where you should position yourself.
This is very important as a slow bike and or rider up front will get in a quicker riders way and may cause an accident.
Once you have your position, have a look around to see whose on each side of you, as well as in front and behind. These positions must remain fixed until changed by one of the above individuals.

Money saving offer,
We have negotiated with Trinity Leathers for the H.M.G riders to obtain made to measure period racing suits at a very special price.
These are hand made to your exact measurements.
Colours are anything you like as long as it’s black!
Body armour included, but no knee sliders or additional coloured panels.
Cost ? How about R4,000.00. This is for us only and not for the general racing public!
You can have your name on the back if you want at R30.00 per letter. I hope your name isn’t Papadopolous?
If you are interested, speak to Charlene at Trinity, mention H.M.G special as discussed.
The first measuring up for the leathers by Charlene was almost worth the money alone!!!

This was in the last newsletter, its included again to refresh your memory.
We have been officially asked to do a demonstration at Kyalami on the 17th July 2004. We still need detailed information, but we will form part of the lead up to the 9-hour Classic Motorcar Show.
The demonstration will consist of two, 6 or 8 lap events.
No official pre-practice day/s are catered for at Kyalami for any race vehicle because of the businesses located nearby, however an early morning practice on the day has been agreed.

License to ride. Please read as changes have taken place.
Mike Oosthuizen (the vintage Velo man) a H.M.G rider and on the governing board of Motorsport in RSA, informs us we will have to take out restricted licenses to fall in line with other demonstrator’s.
The annual cost is R21.00.
There is no medical required.
This license covers a multitude of things, which will be put to paper once we have all the details.
To obtain a restricted license, each H.M.G. rider by the fact that he/she rides for the H.M.G belongs to a recognised SAVVA club already.
You do not have to specifically join another SAVVA club to be able to obtain this license.
The restricted licence will indicate your full name, I.D. and SAVVA number.
Application forms will be at Kyalami and licenses issued.

Paddock apparel
We have ordered a second quantity of LEXAR golf shirts.
The quality is 100%. Everyone at Swartkops on the David Piper Day acknowledged the professionalism of the H.M.G.
Unfortunately the cost cannot be borne by H.M.G. as the original sponsorship monies have all but dried up, most sponsorship monies going on previous promotional items for LEXAR.
The purchase price is R150.00 per golf shirt. This is the manufacturers cost. No monies will be made on the sale of these shirts.
Please speak to Charmaine, if you wish to order one. Contact phone 011 314-2427.

If you do have a LEXAR golf shirt, it’s important to wear it when at official race meetings.

Additional sponsorship.
A sponsor who wishes to remain anonymous has given us an additional small amount of money for use by the H.M.G.
We intend to have golf caps made for us all with the H.M.G logo on the front.
Please promote the H.M.G where you can.

Whilst on sponsorship issue.
We have 6-months to go before the present sponsor’s 12 months are up.
They may renew their sponsorship with us, however if you know of a company who wishes to be involved with the HMG, please give them our contact number, so we can start talking to them. We do not want to wait until the last minute.

Allowing another rider to use your machine.
This was discussed at length and the committee agreed that on official H.M.G. practice days, as long as the ‘other’ rider has paid his entry fee and signed the indemnity form, you may invite a friend along to experience the thrill of riding on a racetrack, using your machine.
Who knows, he / she may become a future H.M.G. rider?
We require that the committee be informed beforehand however, just to keep our records straight.

When it comes to H.M.G. demonstrations, only the owner or designated rider of the machine who appears on the program may ride in the demonstration event. This is a requirement from Motorsports SA, and the restricted license requirement.

We are still growing.
We have over 44 riders participating in events now, with more applicants applying to join.
Some fabulous machines are appearing which would have languished in a garage somewhere, never to be seen again.

Should you know of a person wishing to take part in H.M.G. events, he / she must make an application in writing to the above box number.

We have another two beautifully prepared full race machines that will be entering our next meeting. A Bultaco and a Yamaha.

Some H.M.G. riders have been approached by a photographer who was at Swartkops, offering a CD with over 300 fixed motorcycle pictures, also some small video clips, some clips with sound. Price is R120.00.
I understand he is trying to get advertisers to pay for the making of the CD. If this happens, he will give the CD to us for free.

That’s all for now, happy and safe riding.
